CUPE donates $50,000 to Canadian Red Cross for Saskatchewan wildfire relief

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has stepped up to support wildfire relief efforts in Saskatchewan by donating $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross’ 2025 Saskatchewan Wildfires Appeal. The contribution will aid communities affected by one of the most devastating forest fire seasons in the province’s history, with First Nations communities being disproportionately impacted.

CUPE Saskatchewan President Kent Peterson personally delivered the donation to the Red Cross, underscoring the union’s commitment to standing with affected residents during this crisis.

“Our members live and work in every corner of this province and we see firsthand how wildfires are impacting families and communities,” said Peterson. “This donation is just one step—we will continue to push for long-term support and resources for those affected by these fires.”

“We are grateful for the support of CUPE Saskatchewan to help those impacted by wildfires in the province,” said Luc Mullinder, vice president for Saskatchewan at the Canadian Red Cross. “The Red Cross continues to work closely with Indigenous leadership and federal, provincial and municipal governments to support individuals, families, and communities affected by the wildfires.”

CUPE remains dedicated to working alongside community partners and all levels of government to ensure Saskatchewan residents receive the help they need, both now and in the weeks and months to come.
