Saskatoon public library workers vote in favour of tentative agreement

Today, CUPE 2669, representing Saskatoon public library workers are announcing they have voted in favour of the tentative agreement offered by the employer. Members entered negotiations focused on improving health and safety measures and increasing wages to match the cost of living.

“We were prepared to fight for wage increases and health and safety provisions to keep us safe at work. This new agreement is a step in the right direction to make libraries safe and welcoming environments for staff and members of the public,” said Paige Yellowlees, communications coordinator for CUPE 2669.

CUPE 2669 members voted 80% in favour of the new agreement which includes new provisions to increase wages and make libraries safer:

  • Significant increases to circulation associate wages bringing them closer to Regina Public Library compensation rates.
  • Sick leave improvements for circulation associates.
  • Improved protections against working alone.
  • Establishing a joint safety advisory committee to study and recommend best health and safety practices on an ongoing basis.

CUPE 2669 represents 270 workers in nine Saskatoon public library locations.
