REGINA – Workers covered under the Regina Civic Employees’ Superannuation and Benefits Plan are meeting on Monday, September 8, 2014 to discuss the recent developments in the pension plan and what they are going to do about it.
When: Monday, September 8, 2014 (7:00 p.m.)
Where: Conexus Arts Centre, 200 Lakeshore Drive, Regina
“This is a stressful time for those of us who are worried about our retirement security,” said Kirby Benning, Chair of the Pension and Benefits Committee.
On September 3, the City of Regina officially walked away from the pension deal it signed jointly with employee groups just over a year ago. The City of Regina submitted its own pension proposal to the Superintendent of Pensions – a proposal that is significantly different from the deal it signed with employee groups just a year ago.
“We are disappointed that the City is walking away from a deal we signed in good faith just over a year ago,” said Benning. “We are concerned that they are trying to keep the concessions we agreed to while stripping away the defined benefit nature of the plan – the core aspect that both sides agreed to protect in our original deal.”
“This meeting will allow plan members and the public to learn about what is happening, and what we are doing about it,” added Benning. “We know there are a lot of questions out there, and we want to provide answers to plan members and the public.”
Speakers will include Paul Moist, President of CUPE National and Kirby Benning, Chair of the Pension and Benefits Committee. Pension researchers and lawyers will be on hand to answer questions.
