People take power at Regina Public School Board meeting
Last week over 200 people attended a rally in solidarity with Regina’s public education support workers and, later, made their views heard at the annual meeting of the Regina Public School Board. Support workers are being denied the same pay increase approved for teachers, other professionals and board members.
CUPE celebrates May Day
The roots of May Day go back more than 120 years when hundreds of thousands of North American workers mobilized on May 1, 1886 to fight for an eight-hour day.
Since then, May Day has come to symbolize the international spirit of the Labour movement.

REGINA - CUPE public library workers spent Saturday afternoon outside the Regina Library Home Lottery House looking not for Lady Luck, but for the Board to return to the bargaining table. Library workers handed out leaflets at the lottery home to remind the library management and board that a fair contract offer is long overdue.
Regina commemorates workplace deaths
REGINA – Over 100 people attended the Day of Mourning ceremony held on Saturday, April 28 in Regina at city hall. Nearly 50 people died in the province last year and 39, 000 reported workplace injuries. Similar events were held across the province.

REGINA - CUPE public library workers will be leafleting outside the Library Home Lottery House tomorrow, April 28, from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. The house is located at 4682 Padwick Crescent in Regina’s Harbour Landing.
The 180 public library workers still have not seen a fair contract offer from the library board – 28 months after their last contract expired.

Curlers rock at bonspiel
CUPE curling talent was on display at the annual CUPE Curling Bonspiel hosted by Local 59 – City of Saskatoon administration workers. With a total of 16 teams, the bonspiel took place at the Granite Curling Club in Saskatoon from April 13 – 15, 2012.

REGINA: At a packed membership meeting Monday night, library workers expressed anger and dismay that the library board continues to insist on takeaways – 27 months after their last collective agreement expired. The two sides met earlier this month when a so-called final offer was presented demanding cuts, longer hours for reduced pay and a two-tier workplace.
CUPE health care providers and services promoted
CUPE health care providers are featured on billboards across Saskatchewan as part of a Health Care Council campaign to promote the excellent work they do. The billboards carry the message “Caring for you” along with photos of three workers from each area.

Information picket highlights lack of fairness for Regina’s public school workers
Regina’s education support workers held another information picket Tuesday night, the second in two weeks, to highlight the Regina Public School Board’s refusal to make the same wage offer to education support workers as already provided to the board’s other staff including teachers. Over 100 people joined in the picket.
